First Time Unprovoked, Non-febrile Seizure
The objective in developing this guideline is to assist the pediatrician in the management of first time unprovoked, non-febrile seizure and to determine when it is necessary to make a referral to a pediatric neurologist.
This guideline includes the following:
1.) Identification of seizure characteristics and symptoms following seizure;
2.) Evaluation recommendations to include timing, history, onset, developmental status, precipitating events and health at seizure onset, a complete physical and neurological exam;
3.) Recommendations for lab, EEG and imaging;
4.) Treatment options; and
5.) Recommendations for referral to a pediatric neurologist.
